Octopost writes captions and hashtags that sound like you — not like a robot. Here's what the AI draws on, and how to make it great.

What the AI knows about you

Every caption is built from layers of context: your brand prompt (set on your Tentacle — who you are and how you sound everywhere), your channel prompt (set per account — how this one channel flavors that voice), your own posting history from connected accounts (your real writing style, emoji habits, and hashtag patterns — the strongest signal of all), plus the video's transcript and title. On top of that, each platform has its own rules: LinkedIn gets a longer, structured post, X gets something short and punchy, TikTok gets a hook. One click, and every selected platform gets its own version.

Generate a caption

   Set up the post

   On Compose, add your media and select at least one account. The generate button stays off until the AI has something to work with.

   Click Generate Caption & Hashtags

   A few seconds later you'll have a caption and hashtags for every selected platform, each written to fit that platform's style.

   Steer it if needed

   Click Regenerate for a fresh take, or pick an angle: Shorter, Funnier, Professional, Bold, or Question hook. You can always edit the text by hand afterwards — it's your caption.

Getting better results

Three things make the biggest difference. First, write a brand prompt on your Tentacle — it's the umbrella voice for everything. Second, add a channel prompt to each account on the Accounts page — it fine-tunes that one channel without overriding the brand. Third, give the AI real material: let video transcription finish, and use descriptive titles instead of “final_v2.mp4”.

Captions on autopilot

Inside a Tentacle you can switch on Auto AI captions. Every item you add to that queue gets its caption and hashtags written automatically — you just review and let it post.
